Ways to Train

We have different types of classes, like our WOD, functional circuit, B3 Core or Sunday Bunday. All of our classes are coached, scalable, and intentionally programmed. One of the biggest benefits of coached training is the ability to adjust workouts appropriately for the individual athlete.

If you prefer do follow your own plan, our 24/7 open gym gives you access to everything the gym has to offer.

WOD

WOD, The WOD, or “Workout of the Day,” features varied, functional movements performed at high intensity. It aims to improve key fitness skills:

Endurance

Stamina

Strength

Flexibility

Power

Speed

Coordination

Agility

Balance

Accuracy

WOD classes run Monday to Saturday for one hour, including warm-up, workout, and mobility. Some sessions focus on strength or skill work with shorter workouts, while others may last 20-40 minutes.

Functional Circuit Training

Looking for a moderate-intensity class to help you lose weight and build lean muscle? Our Functional Circuit Training class is perfect for you! Each session features a rotating circuit of exercises, including full-body moves, isolation work, and core training.

This class focuses on bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, dumbbells, kettlebells, and plyometrics. We emphasize functional movements—those you might use in daily life—so you become your own machine instead of relying on bulky machines. Classes last one hour and include a warm-up and explanation before diving into the circuit.

You'll spend time at different stations, which change each day, ensuring you never do the same workout twice. This class is a favorite for those who prefer a lower heart rate and moderate intensity compared to the WOD.

B3 Core

If youʼve completed a UAF Extension Better Bones & Balance class (through Tongass Fitness or Community Schools) please join this B3 Core group to keep progressing toward your bone health goals. Most B3 Core sessions will be led by Vicki Van Fleet or Sarah Lewis, but will sometimes be independent. A folder of examples are available for your use in planning independent workouts. If you havenʼt completed a B3 Fitness class, please contact Sarah Lewis to learn when the next one is scheduled.

Sunday Bunday

Fun, low-key strength training with a primary emphasis on glutes and legs.

Open Gym & Cardio Loft

As an Open Gym member, you get a key code for 24/7 access to the gym. You can use all the equipment, including weight racks, pull-up bars, dumbbells, kettlebells, and cardio machines.

The downstairs area is available unless a class is in session, but you can always access the upstairs Cardio Loft, which features manual treadmills, a Peloton bike, and more.
